Slack Setup Checklist
Your step-by-step guide to getting started with our new community space.
1. Join Slack
https://1to1coaching.slack.com
You can use Slack in two ways:
The Slack App (recommended for easiest access)
Your Web Browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)
Many members choose to use both - for example, the app on your phone and the browser version on your laptop.
2. Create Your Profile
Inside Slack:
Upload a photo (optional but helpful)
Add your name
3. note we will use our private channel
find our private channel (it will be called “your name - Joan”)
This is where we will message each other (not in the DMs)
4. Turn On or Customize Your Notifications
Staying engaged is key to getting the most out of coaching, so I recommend turning notifications on for our channel.
Here’s how:
On the Mobile App
Tap the photo or three dots in the top right
Tap “Notifications”
Choose:
“All new messages”
Or “Direct messages, mentions & keywords”
Tap “Channel Notifications” to customize specific channels
On Desktop / Browser
Click your name or workspace name (top left)
Select “Preferences”
Click “Notifications”
Choose your global setting (all messages, mentions only, etc.)
Slack FAQs
Do I need to be tech-savvy to use Slack?
Not at all. If you can click a link and send a text, you can use Slack.
Do I need the app?
You don’t have to, but it does make things easier.
You can also use Slack entirely from your browser if you prefer.
Why am I not seeing notifications?
Check both device and Slack settings.
Ensure notifications are allowed on your phone or laptop, then adjust Slack’s notification preferences.
